Our Mission is to Help Raise Awareness, Promote Understanding and Support to those living in our community and their loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, the 100 types of Dementia or a related neurocognitive disorder.
BRAIN BOWL EVENTS, INC., a volunteer-based non-profit organization, led by Attorney, PAMELA HIGER-POLANI, helps increase awareness and funds for those living with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s & the 100 types of dementia in our community.
In addition to national Alzheimer's and Parkinson organizations, BRAIN BOWL, as it does each year, supports other local non-profits, focused on several elements of aging and Dementia in our community.
This year, our volunteer committee commits to bringing awareness and helping to raise funds for (listed in no order of preference):
1. SWEET DREAM MAKERS, to help seniors receive specialized beds and bedding. As Suzy Broad, Founder and & Executive Director explained poor sleep directly affects how we think & feel. Research indicates that lack of deep sleep may increase the risk of dementia by 27%, as reported in Medical News Today.
Some research also suggests that improving sleep quality may help delay the progression of Alzheimer's.
A primary factor of sleep health is sleep hygiene, which includes your sleep environment; the biggest threat to good sleep hygiene is bedlessness (simply said - being without a proper bed).
Today, Sweet Dream Makers provides new beds and bedding to nearly 200 senior citizens a year, who are either at risk or suffering from dementia-related illnesses, immediately improving their quality of life.
2. Boca Ballet Theatre, Dance For Those Living With Parkinson’s, through Director, Cindy Surman, provides absolutely free and accessible programming to help those living with this disease learn how to increase mobility, better balance and posture. All this, while improving their mood and reducing social anxiety, along with feelings of isolation associated with PD. Classes are open 2 times each week for anyone with Parkinson's Disease, no matter their age, ability or advancement of their condition.
AND
3. THE DIAPER BANK COVERING SOUTH FLORIDA, increase their inventory of adult undergarments, which can be an enormous expense for many families living through this type of medical crisis.
Likewise, we still show our support, as we have done in years past, for AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CAREGIVING YOUTH ("AACY"); and Search & Rescue Dogs for the PALM BEACH COUNTY'S SHERIFF'S FOUNDATION.
